The PADI Manuals

Scuba Diving is fun, you see it in videos, reels, shorts, tiktok. You heard your friends talk about it. They even call it a fun dive.  To learn is key, to read the manual is not built on nothing but years of research for PADI to prepare you towards a lifetime of experience of FUN.

This manual will help you understand what it is you are supposed to learn. It is essential to your growth as an Open Water Scuba Diver. The order and combination of the Knowledge Reviews and Experience was a well thought out method that PADI has perfected to certify confident, independent and well equipped Open Water Scuba Diver.

When you get your manual you might think, but where is the fun in this?  So PADI eases you in to an experience of a synergy of educational tools. To give you that sense of thinking, feeling and internalizing what SCUBA diving is all about.

That’s why the PADI Open Water SCUBA diver manual was designed this way because scuba can get technical and easily not fun. It was after all initially systematized by the navy, military and well you know where I am getting at. But thankfully PADI made it more sensible for us who just wants to stay underwater a little longer quote unquote Jacques Cousteau.

To learn with the PADI and their manuals are fun methodical and reasonable. I appreciate how they made it colorful. We must never forget that sense of fun when scuba diving but also be ready and geared up for the worst.

“IN SCUBA DIVING WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW CAN HURT YOU but don’t worry—when you’re properly informed and follow what you’ve learned, you can avoid or minimize the risks of diving.

So here are tips on how to use the PADI Manual to prime for your Confined Water training and Open Water Dives.

  1. Skimming is allowed for your first time. Check out the headings in Section One. A quick scan can help you get the gist of the courses.  It will give you the basics of what you will be learning.
  2. You can alternate the Video and Manual. Although I learned without the Video, this tip can be helpful for other people who prefers a more visual approach. But the video is not an alternative, but just a support. The Manual is still the most important tool for Independent Learning.
  3. The PADI Manual is interactive, so also use this brilliant piece of learning tool to give meaning to what you are learning. It will affirm and assure you that you are on the right track with learning objectives, quick quizzes and Knowledge Reviews.
  4. Each Section has Study Objectives so make sure to note those down and allow it to lead you as you do your Independent Learning. Look for the objectives and the highlight or underline the answers. This method is proven effective. To actually emphasize those study objectives by a highlighter or pen will actually help you remember them in the future.
  5.  If you have questions simply inform me which parts confused you and I will help you go through your questions.
  6. Another interactive tool is the Quick Quiz. Small sections that allows you to check what you learned. Again PADI suggests that you actually answer on the book with a pen or pencil, then check for supplied answer on the bottom of the quiz.
  7. And the last Interactive Tool that will not only help you but also me by being able for me to monitor your progress is the Knowledge Review.  This is like your midterms and this more or less summarization of the Sections. You will be reviewing your answers with me on the first day of your course, so be prepared for that when we meet up.
  8. If you’re completing all your independent learning ahead of time (or just like getting ahead), repeat Steps 1-5 for Sections two through five. If your course schedule distributes your study throughout the course, you can start on the next section after you complete the section One elaboration and review and Confined Water Dive One. Be sure to complete the next section’s video, reading, Quick Quizzes and Knowledge Reviews before the elaboration and review sessions.
